Gainesville, Florida

Inspired by a hair show in South Florida, I began hairdressing school at the age of 19. In the summer of 2000 I landed assistant position at The Strand Salon in Gainesville, Fl. an Aveda concept salon. Here I was shown the importance of education and exposed to this dream filled industry. In the spring of 2008 my journey began with Davines. Alongside Danny my partner in life and in business we had opportunity to work together at Mode Salon and Spa. We became an exclusive Davines concept salon. Three years later we expanded and opened our west location, Mode salon West an Aveda concept salon. Having both Davines and Aveda gives us a global network where we are constantly exposed to the industry trends.

As a Mentor I share my knowledge and I coach our hairdressers as well as our spa therapists on their daily practices. I build their confidence technically by providing hands on education as part of our
commitment. We believe so strongly in furthering ourselves that our educators have traveled to NYC, Miami, California, London, Paris and Canada to help grow our network and train with the industry's most celebrated.

As the head of Education at Mode Salon Spa East and West I have a responsibility to our guest and to my team to create an environment that shares my love and passion for this industry. Danny and I were invited along with the 20 top salons in Florida to attend the industries most respected and sought after program redCHOCOLATE. David Adams and Virginia Meyer, founders of redCHOCOLATE, a new color education program that connects the salon owner, manager and service provider to the essential tools, techniques and processes for sustained growth. David Adams is a globally renowned colorist and former Aveda technical artistic director. Virginia Meyer is a former Aveda Corp. executive and world renowned business consultant. This changed the way we see color. Six weeks later we were certified redCHOCOLATE and this changed our culture. “Beautiful color begins with healthy hair.” This famous RedCHOCOLATE saying now resonates with my team and I daily.

Shortly after redCHOCOLATE certification I completed Vivienne Mackinder’s 16 week Editorial Series. This competition focused on Editorial Styling, editorial styling is one of my greatest passions and my greatest challenges. I was the winner of this 16 week competition. Editorial styling focuses on print, runway, red carpet, bridal, and collection work. Some of the greatest hairdresser’s in the world are editorial stylist. Vidal Sassoon, Trevor Sorbe, Vivienne Mackinder, Angelo Seminara, David Adams and Ted Gibson are some of my hair heroes.

I am proud to be Mode Salon’s General Manager. Even though I am not a stylist I strive to insure each guest gets the utmost attention and care. I graduated from the University of Florida in 1998 and ever since have made Gainesville my home. While at the University Of Florida my Entrepreneurial spirit began to emerge. I started two student ran web based businesses that I later sold after graduation. Shortly after graduation one of my classmates Michael Carroll and I purchased an Allstate Insurance Agency in Ocala Florida. Within three years we purchased our second location in Gainesville and have been meeting the insurance needs of Gainesville and Ocala residents ever since, please visit www.TheCarrollAgencies.com for more info.
While I love the Insurance industry, and helping to make sure that my client’s assets and futures are protected, I really wanted to have another business in Gainesville that was more retail based, and still helped to connect me to the community in a personal way. I had known Lonie Carpenter my partner for many years and we were married in 2008. Lonie had been working as a stylist for many years in Gainesville and was known as one of the best. It had always been  his dream to operate a luxury salon in Gainesville and offer the residents here the finest in hair and skin care. In early 2008 that is just what we did. Since Mode Salon opened we have both grown as individuals and the businesses has grown as well. It has been a truly wonderful experience to watch my partner realize his dream and to work with him side by side as we accomplished that goal. Today we manage two locations Mode East and Mode West both unique but sharing one culture and offering the finest in products from around the world.

I encourage you to visit Lonie’s bio and get a sense of the accomplishments and training that he brings back to our staff to help insure you are receiving the latest and greatest from the beauty industry. We look forward to greeting you and sharing our passion with you for our community, our industry, and life. No matter which location you choose you can rest assured that we are actively involved in all areas from product selection, to advanced training for our stylist to learn and grow, as well as maintaining an ethical low impact business and in creating a warm and welcoming environment for you to enjoy. We look forward to getting to know you, and hope to see you soon.

Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, my very early inspiration to do hair came from my mother, Cosmetologist as well, when I was just a little girl. Later on, my mom and I owned a beauty salon in Ocala for 9 years. During this time, I graduated from Central Florida College in Ocala as a Cosmetologist, and acquired a strong foundation in my craft. Three years ago, after joining Mode Salon Lonie Carpenter became my mentor and infused me with his passion for this industry.
Lonie and Danny believe wholeheartedly in providing hair, beauty and wellness professionals a thorough and complete education in our craft, as well as how to be successful, which has permitted me to become a Senior Stylist, striving everyday to move forward to the next level.

I personally love the Mode consultation process because it allows us to see what our clients really desire and helps us be on the same page, all while giving them something fun and exciting to remember about their experience in Mode Salon.

Proud to embrace my natural curls and whether your hair is wavy, curly or coily, I’ll be glad to address issues like frizz control, moisture and protein balance.

As a licensed Aesthetician and Massage Therapist I have a strong passion to make every guest feel beautiful not only on the outside but the inside as well. I started my journey and dedication the spa industry here in Gainesville while attending The Florida School of Massage, after working as a Massage Therapist for two years I decided to further my education by becoming an Aesthetician as well training in facials, waxing, threading, and makeup applications..
There is nothing that I love more than helping people not only feel good by managing pain, discomfort, or stress through body work, but also feeling beautiful and confident through my aesthetician work; something as simple as a facial, wax, or make up application can be so rejuvenating. One of my new passions within the aesthetician world is Semi-permanent eyelash extensions, they are a new and exciting enhancement that has swept the beauty industry. My education never ends I am continuously staying up to date on the newest techniques and expanding my knowledge on massage as well as the skin industry..

I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people every day that I can share my passion with. I am so honored to be part of the Mode Salon family, and be part of such a motivated team of specialists.

I am a passionate hairstylist who believes in caring for the beauty of your hair from the inside out! My goal is to give my guest beautiful, healthy hair and a positive experience! I'm an Aveda trained cosmetologist who has been with the Mode family for 2 years.
I have been trained in all aspects of hair styling from cuts, colors, highlighting and treatments. I specialize in natural/textured hair, weaving extensions and hair braiding. As a wife and mother of two, I understand that sometimes beauty is the last thing on your agenda but when you come to Mode Salon, you're guaranteed to leave feeling and looking better than when you came!

Trained in Men's cuts, Trending hair cuts, Ombre, Balayage, color corrections, creative color/placement, Brazilian Blowout treatments, Cezanne smoothing treatments, Keratherapy smoothing treatments, Relaxers, Natural hair styling, special occasion make-up, Updos and Davines/Aveda continuing education.

Emily is exclusively located at our East location, Tuesday-Saturday.

Emily specializes in balayage and creative color but can set her mind to anything put in front of her! After studying graphic design at Santa Fe, I met a girl who was a hairstylist. The way she spoke with such knowledge about her craft truly inspired me so I applied to cosmetology school. I couldn't have made a better decision. After graduating and receiving my license I sought out a position at Mode Salon.
I wanted to work at Mode because of the beautiful location and it's incredible education opportunities. I didn't want to just be thrown onto a salon floor. I then discovered my love for hair color while working under the owner, Lonie as his apprentice. He taught me everything I know during those few months and continues to educate and inspire me to this day.

After finishing my apprenticeship I continued to take weekly advanced education at our in-salon training “Mode Academy”, The Aveda Institute and more, making sure to never underestimate the power of knowledge.
As I continue to work at Mode as a hairstylist I look forward to my future...hoping to one day become an educator with Davines. I want to pass on all of the things I've learned to other stylists around the world!

Hope to meet you soon!

Shandell’s passion for hair started when she was young. She always loved being able to use her artistic talents to help others feel better about themselves. She is has been at Mode Salon for over four years. Once she graduated from The Salon Professional Academy, she has steadily been improving and learning over the years. She is a big believer in continuing education, and attending as many seminars as possible. Not only does she love learning about improving her quality as a hair stylist, but she loves learning about her clients.
Shandell loves working with all of the Aveda products, and believes not only in their premier quality, but also in the beliefs of the company. She has always been an advocate when it comes to saving the environment, and she is thrilled that she has been able to partner with such a great company.

She loves making sure that all of her clients are treated as if they are they are royalty, and gives each person an individually wonderful experience. If you have been looking for a new stylist, and haven’t been able to find one, give Shandell a call, and we know that you will leave completely satisfied and feel better about yourself.

Growing up I had a passion for hair, which evolved after my first visit to Mode where my stylist inspired me to take the next step and go to cosmetology school.
Immediately after starting school, I quickly sought out a position at Mode where I began my journey as an assistant to the Master Stylist, Lonie Carpenter.

For a year, Lonie trained me in advanced hairdressing as well as providing me with classes through both Davines and Aveda. With training from top stylists representing these brands, I began to find my passion for color services and learned the new and trendy balayage/color correction/ombre techniques that I had always seen on Instagram.

Within this time, I was also granted the opportunity to attend the 3-day SR Advanced Women's Haircutting class with one of Sassoon's former creative artistic directors, Sally Rogerson.

All in all, I am super stoked to meet you and start a new hair journey with you!
